Created in 2012, NAB Labs is an initiative of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) to foster innovation and continue to propel broadcast television and radio into the future.
NAB Labs provides a platform for innovation, a venue for forging partnerships and testing new technology, and educational events to create awareness about over-the-air radio and television technology initiatives.
NAB Labs focuses on six areas:
Showcase
Provide a venue for presenting the broadcast industry’s latest technical developments to its membership, government officials, the press and other influential audiences.
Incubator
Offer funding and other assistance for the development of new technologies and services beneficial to the broadcast industry.
Innovation
Stimulate creation of new ideas and applications enabling the next-generation of radio and television broadcasting.
Partnerships
Maintain liaisons with industry and technology partners, to keep members informed of the latest global developments, as well as promulgate homegrown innovations worldwide.
Testing
Provide a forum for validating the effectiveness and appropriateness of new technologies for broadcasting.
Education and Evangelism
Create and present continuing education for members’ technical staff across a wide variety of platforms, and develop best practices for the application of new technologies by broadcasters. Offer events that bring together the best and brightest broadcast technologists and researchers from around the world to share their latest work.
